'J’adore le Français!’

St. Colman’s was a pilot school for the Modern Language  Initiativecopy of p1000546 back in 2002 and in the intervening years many children have been very fortunate to get an excellent introduction to the French language and culture. Unfortunately, following the budget of 2011, this initiative was discontinued but having seen the enormous benefit for the children, the staff of St. Colman’s was reluctant to lose this. Therefore the Management & Parent’s Council agreed to fund the programme for 5th and 6th classes under the instruction of Katie Johnston.

copy of p1000548In 5th class the children are introduced to the language and French culture with a focus on gaining confidence in speaking French. The following year in 6th class, the children become more proficient in both speaking and writing in preparation for work at secondary school level.

The children really enjoy the French lessons.  Ms. Johnston makes  the  lessons  fun – She  uses  games,  pictures  and  fun  quizzes  to  make  the  lessons  interesting for all children. We are very lucky that we were able to continue to have French available to us in St. Colman’s.
