Success for St.Colman's in the Mullingar Rotary Club Young Writer Competition.

7th May 2026

There were celebrations galore in St. Colman's this week with the announcement of the Mullingar Rotary Club Young Writer Competition winners. We were delighted to hear that three of our entries were deemed worthy winners !!!

In the Junior category Huw Keaveney placed first with his story 'Fidelma’s Freedom' while first class pupil Aisling Deane was placed second with her short story 'Sophie's Magical Forest Adventure '.

In the Intermediate Competition Ellen Murphy came in 2nd Place with her story entitled 'Happiness in Nature'.

All three were invited to an awards ceremony in the Mullingar Library on Wednesday last where they were presented with certificates of recognition and book tokens in the presence of their families and friends.

Further good news emerged at the ceremony when Dónal Lawlor , Mullingar Rotary Club and master of ceremony announced that Huw Keaveney's entry which had been submitted to Rotary Ireland for the national stage of the competition had been placed second!

We in St.Colman's are extremely proud of all the children who entered the competition this year. We applaud their efforts and congratulate them all!
