Congratulations to Newly Elected Students Council Members!
Election fever hit St. Colman's in the past weeks, as a new Students Council was elected for the academic year 2025/2026.
The school was buzzing with excitement during the campaign and election process. Corridors were decorated with campaign posters designed and made by the candidates themselves. Each child who put themself forward for election was required to devise a manifesto, the children were invited to present their manifesto to the class, and after all candidates had presented, the elections took place in a democratic manner of “one child one vote”.
The elections culminated in a child from every class from First Class upwards being elected to our new Students Council for the current academic year. There is one member from each First, Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Class and double representation for Sixth Classes as it is their final year here with us in St. Colman's.
Mr. Beehan and the staff were so impressed with the children who put themselves forward and the effort put in that we're sure we'll have future politicians coming from the halls of St. Colman's and maybe even a future President of Ireland!
Having seen the manifestos and heard the fantastic ideas the candidates have been elected on, we are looking forward to the year ahead. The common theme running through the Students Councils each year is that they are asked to come up with ideas for how we can make St. Colman's a better place for the children. The ethos is that every child has a voice, every child deserves to be heard and every child can make a difference by using their voice and being heard. Our Students Council is built on this cornerstone.
Congratulations to all our newly elected members and a huge well done to every single child who was brave enough to put themself forward. Those who weren't successful on this occasion may well be next time – even President Catherine Connolly will tell you that!
