Claude Monet Poppy Fields

24th Apr 2024

In 5th Class this week, the children studied 'The Poppy Field' - a well known painting by Claude Monet.
We chose to discuss, study and recreate this famous painting due to the poppy being a symbol of remembrance for World War 1 (our current topic in History).
The poppy's origin as a popular symbol of remembrance lies in the landscapes of the First World War. Poppies were a common sight, especially on the Western Front. They flourished in the soil churned up by the fighting and shelling.
