Today we visited the Science Park in Mullingar. We learned how we can become more eco friendly by using biodegradable products instead of plastic. Then, we were divided into smaller groups and completed a challenge. We worked together to design packaging for a biscuit to keep it safe. To test our product we had to squeeze it and toss it in the air. If it was still in one piece, then we had succeeded!If the biscuit broke, we failed! Each small group had the opportunity to visit different sections in the factory- VR, 3D printing, robotics and metal work. We learned that they are trying to develop 'Mental Reality' glasses. These glasses help trainees in the factory and to test robots. In the metal work room, we saw a machine that moulds metal into products such as knee replacement devices. In the 3D printing room, we saw the printers in action! There was a robot arm that is used to pick up things humans find too heavy to carry. We saw a robot on wheels that is working in the factory and a PS4 controller that controlled a robot car. We had a fantastic day and learned so much.
